Solid-state batteries have been a long time coming. For years, it felt like they were stuck in the experiment phase, but that’s finally starting to change with more real-world applications. 

For almost two decades, solid-state batteries have been hailed as the game-changer for electric vehicles. A breakthrough that promises to eliminate range anxiety, slash charging times and make electric cars as practical and convenient as gas-powered ones—without the nasty tailpipe emissions that pollute the air and harm human health.

Mercedes-Benz and its EV battery collaborators Factorial have announced a breakthrough in solid state battery technology, which could arrive in production cars by 2030.

Mercedes-back American battery company Factorial said it's developing a new solid-state battery named Solstice for release by end of the decade.
