Experts have developed a new drug which helps tackle the underlying causes of obesity.

Eli Lilly and Co (NYSE:LLY) on Tuesday shared detailed results from the Phase 3 ATTAIN-1 trial, evaluating the safety and efficacy of oral orforglipron in adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related medical problem, and without diabetes.

A higher dose of the weight loss drug semaglutide (better known by its brand name Wegovy) may help people lose up to 25% of their body weight – without the risk of severe side-effects. These findings are based on the results of two recently published clinical trials.

On Monday, the European Medicines Agency’s (EMA) Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) approved an update to Novo Nordisk A/S‘ (NYSE:NVO) Rybelsus (oral semaglutide) label to reflect the cardiovascular benefits seen in the SOUL trial.
