The Allahabad High Court today reserved its judgement on a plea moved by Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair to quash an FIR against him. While reserving its verdict, the bench of Justices Siddhartha Varma and Yogendra Kumar Srivastava also extended Zubair’s interim protection from arrest.

Mohammed Zubair got interim bail from the Supreme Court on Friday, but the Alt News cofounder will stay in custody. In a separate case, the court provided Zee News anchor Rohit Ranjan protection from coercive police action.

On June 7, Alt News cofounder Mohammed Zubair posted the following on Twitter, after the social media platform sent him multiple emails about requests it had received from the police on Zubair’s tweets “violating” the law.
