Uttar Pradesh: Police bring Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair from Tihar, produce him in Sitapur court

LUCKNOW: Delhi Police on Monday brought Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair to Sitapur in connection with a case registered against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through his tweet on Mahant Bajrang Muni, Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati and Swami Anand Swaroop.

Inspector general, Lucknow range, Laxmi Singh, said Zubair was produced before a court at Sitapur in the above case. Zubair had allegedly referred to the three seers as "hate mongers" in his tweet.

UP Police had filed a chargesheet against Zubair in the case. "A production warrant was issued after the chargesheet was filed against Zubair, who was booked under the charges of hurting religious sentiments and under sections of the Information Technology Act," the IG said.

The Sitapur court remanded Zubair to 14-day judicial custody, but he will remain in Delhi’s Tihar jail where he was lodged after his arrest on June 27 in another case of hurting religious sentiments. After 14 days, the Alt News co-founder will be produced in the Sitapur court again.

On May 27, one Bhagwan Sharan had lodged an FIR against Zubair for an alleged derogatory tweet against Mahant Bajrang Muni, Yati Narsinghanand and Swami Anand Swaroop.
