What do you get when you take the biggest YouTube star on the globe, mix in some Draco Malfoy magic and blend in some brand Beckham?

“We wouldn't be in existence now; we'd have gone out of business years ago.” During his tenure as CEO of Formula E, Jeff Dodds has never been afraid of pushing boundaries when it comes to the all-electric championship.

“They’ve turned that around quickly” an impressed colleague said to this writer on entering the media centre at the Jarama Circuit on Tuesday morning, as a banner reading “2024/25 Madrid Official Testing” was being erected.

Among some motorsport fans, Formula E has been dismissed as insignificant. But maybe that’s missing the point, for perhaps it’s a championship that’s not really meant for traditionalists, instead belonging to future generations. 

“I wouldn’t put it in as a TBD with the date secured if I wasn’t highly confident that we’re over the line already; at least technically over the line, if not contractually over the line. I have high confidence that it will go ahead.”

Formula E has hired the services of Ellie Norman who will join as the all-electric championship’s new chief marketing officer, having previously worked for Formula 1 and Manchester United.

Since taking on his new role almost one year ago, Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds has been vocal on several topics as he looks to guide the all-electric championship to bigger and better things.

The telecommunications business will see its ownership share of Formula E increase to 65%, and therefore become the controlling shareholder in the series, with the remaining 35% made up of minority shareholders.
