Stellantis recalls 77,500 vehicles in Spain due to fire risk

Stellantis is recalling 77,500 vehicles in Spain over a fault in two components which, in humid conditions, could pose a risk of fire in the engine compartment, the company has announced.

The issue affects vehicles from brands such as Peugeot, Citroën, Opel, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat built between 2023 and 2026. According to Stellantis, this is a voluntary recall.

German media have also reported that the carmaker has recalled around 700,000 hybrid vehicles worldwide over the same issue, according to Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority.

The service takes around 30 minutes and is free of charge

Affected vehicles may have insufficient clearance between the petrol particulate filter pipe and the protective cover of the belt-driven starter generator, the carmaker explains, adding that in humid conditions 'there is a risk of overheating'. In the worst case, this could lead to a fire risk in the engine compartment.

Stellantis said it would contact owners of the affected vehicles to urge them to call their dealer and schedule an appointment, as it may be necessary to replace the protective cover of the belt-driven starter generator with one offering greater insulation. The service takes around 30 minutes and is free of charge for owners of the affected vehicles, Stellantis said.
