A mentally ill woman knifed a complete stranger in a suburban shopping centre so she would be arrested and stopped from killing her own family, the WA District Court hears.

Christopher John Anderson received a suspended sentence after pleading guilty over the 2021 crime.

Cameron Brodie-Hall is accused of possessing documents related to "achieving mass awakening by taking down the system" and condoned successful terrorist attackers. The Supreme Court of South Australia granted bail on April 6, after it was refused the previous month by the District Court.

"By maintaining access to these records, the Court promotes the public's interest 'in ascertaining what evidence and records the District Court ... relied upon in reaching [its] decision,' and the Court provides 'the public with a more complete understanding of the judicial system, including a better perception of its fairness.'"
