Ten persons from Myanmar, currently admitted to a hospital in Churachandpur district of Manipur with bullet injuries, were intercepted by the Assam Rifles at the border and allowed to enter the State as it was a case of a medical emergency, according to multiple government officials.

The Assam Rifles has moved additional troops to secure a bridge on a national highway in south Manipur that is the only route for essential supplies to the tribal district of Churachandpur district in the violence-hit State.

A criminal case has been registered against an Imphal-based politician for writing an opinion column where he alleged that the present crisis in Manipur is the creation of the Assam Rifles unit at Mantripukhri.

“A soldier from the Assam Rifles was injured while diffusing an improvised bomb in Saitan village in Manipur’s Bishnupur district Friday morning (May 12), about 60 km south of Imphal,” officials said.
