Senior journalist Yambem Laba was reportedly abducted by unidentified armed persons from his residence in Imphal at gunpoint early Tuesday morning hours after he had returned from a television talk show on the current political crisis in Manipur.

Tensions escalated in Manipur’s Imphal on Tuesday as clashes broke out between students and security forces during a protest, despite a curfew being in place in several districts.

The Manipur government has imposed a five-day “temporary suspension or curbing of internet and mobile data services” across the state, along with curfews in Imphal East and West districts and prohibitory orders in Thoubal, Bishnupur and Kakching, as per The Hindu.

Students from various schools and colleges have staged massive protests in front of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Raj Bhavan in Imphal, expressing their dissatisfaction with the handling of the Manipur crisis.
