Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking help for the treatment of a 15-month-old boy from Karnataka, who has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 2, a rare genetic disease.

With the State government announcing grand celebrations of the silver jubilee of renaming the State as Karnataka under the banner ‘Karnataka-50’, the 68th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in the districts of Dharwd, Haveri, Gadag, and Uttar Kannada were more vibrant this time.

Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated with joy across northern Karnataka on Wednesday. Cultural programmes, lectures, and sports events were held at various places. District in charge Ministers unfurled the national flag and addressed crowds. Rajyotsava celebrations were held in schools, colleges, offices, industries, and various associations across the region.

B. Nagendra, Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports and Tribal Welfare and in-charge for Ballari, said that major circles and streets in Ballari would be named after the great personalities who had fought for the unification of Karnataka.

Labour Minister and district in-charge for Dharwad Santosh Lad has said that steps had been taken for ensuring adequate drinking water, fodder to cattle, and employment for job card-holders in the drought-hit Dharwad district and a proposal worth ₹212 crore had been submitted to the State government for drought relief.

Kerala has received 1% excess rainfall during October at a time when Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together experienced the sixth driest October in the past 123 years.

“Gadag district played a prominent role in the renaming of the State as Karnataka and just like the history of unification of the State, the renaming too has an interesting and long history,” Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Legislation, and Tourism H.K. Patil said.
