Rio Ferdinand breaks silence on Liverpool's Man United 'massacre' after prediction backfires spectacularly

Rio Ferdinand has broken his silence after Liverpool’s historic win over his former club Manchester United.

The Reds claimed a 7-0 victory over their bitter rivals in the Premier League on Sunday. Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez scored two goals apiece, while Roberto Firmino was also on the score sheet.

Before the game, Ferdinand was confident in his predictions going into the fixture at Anfield. The former Manchester United defender claimed that Liverpool had “taken a couple of steps backwards”.

"Nervous? This is the most confident I've been going into a Liverpool fixture for the last six or seven years," Ferdinand told BT Sport last week. "I think Man United are on the up whereas Liverpool have stagnated and taken a couple of steps backwards.

"They've been on a formidable run the last few years, but they aren't the Liverpool team that we've seen the last few years at the moment. What a time to go to Anfield, it's the best place to win as a Man United player."

Now Ferdinand has spoken for the first time since Liverpool beat his former club. The former centre-back labelled the result as a “absolute massacre”.

“We've been pulverised,” said Ferdinand, speaking on his Youtube channel FIVE.

“That was a massacre. An absolute massacre at Anfield.

“That's all you can call it. The players will be feeling embarrassed.”
