PTT app to cut food queues

Mr Somyot introduces the new service which was officially launched last week.

PTT Oil and Retail Business Plc (OR) has teamed up with a startup to launch a QueQ mobile application to help motorists manage their queues and reduce the time it takes to buy food and beverages at PTT petrol stations.

The app also aims to facilitate delivery service providers which have to deal with a number of online food and drink orders.

QueQ can be used with Pin Tho Pump, a new food takeaway and delivery service, as well as other food and coffee shops at PTT stations.

After placing purchase orders, people can pick them up at petrol stations or through delivery services.

Somyot Kongprawet, OR's senior executive vice-president for non-oil retail business, said the app is expected to be of most benefit to motorists who do not want to waste their time by waiting in a long queue.

OR has partnered with QueQ Thailand, a six-year-old startup specialising in making queue management applications. The software can be widely applied to many sectors, including banks and medical services.

Pin Tho Pump was officially launched last week with five pilot petrol stations, locally called "pumps", chosen to offer a new food service.

The petrol stations are located at Lat Phrao, Ratchaphruek 1, Phutthamonthon Sai 4, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road and Rama 2 Road.

Mr Somyot said OR expects the food service to match the new lifestyles of people living in the city.

OR earlier acquired shares in a laundry business to further expand its non-oil services, including the provision of launderettes at its petrol stations.

The company, through its wholly owned subsidiary Modulus Venture Co, purchased a 40% share in K-nex Corporation for 1.1 billion baht. K-nex is a retailer of laundry and dryer machines and a franchiser of laundry self-services under the "Otteri Wash & Dry" brand.

The investment will lead to an expansion of launderette branches, both at the company's petrol stations and outside of them, according to OR.
