The Liverpool forward's sharp turn and 20-yard effort, that fizzed in via the post, was a goal the Netherlands international has been threatening to score almost since his very first day as a Reds player.

Just ask Jurgen Klopp about the Dutchman's attributes and he will wax lyrical, enthused by the skillset of his £37m January signing. Shooting from distance, the manager has always professed, is one of Gakpo's strengths, as is his close control and ability to take possession in tight areas.

'I supported Liverpool' - Christian Purslow explains Aston Villa decision to sack Steven Gerrard

Aston Villa CEO Christian Purslow has opened up on the club's decision to sack Steven Gerrard as manager in October - admitting their time together at Liverpool made the call more difficult.

Gerrard was relieved of his duties at Villa Park having won 12 of his 38 games after succeeding Dean Smith in November 2021 following a highly successful stint at Rangers where he beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title with 102 points having gone the entire season without defeat.

The legendary former Liverpool captain's spell at Villa Park was a disappointing one, however, as replacement Unai Emery has since taken the Villans up to fifth in the Premier League.
