Just Stop Oil protesters disrupt Premiership rugby final between Sale Sharks and Saracens

The rugby union Premiership final between Sale Sharks and Saracens was halted after Just Stop Oil protestors ran onto the pitch.

Two men invaded the field at Twickenham midway through the first half. They hurled orange paint onto the pitch, but were met with a chorus of boos as the game was stopped.

Loud cheers met the protestors' exit as stewards escorted them from the stadium.

BT Sport's coverage cut away from the protestor and the scene they created as they instead interviewed Sale's Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson with the game then tied at 6-6. Orange smoke remained visible on the pitch after the protestors had left.

The protest followed a similar one at the World Snooker Championship in April. On that occasion, a man tipped orange paint on the table during the match between Robert Milkins and Joe Perry at the Crucible in Sheffield.

A woman was prevented from executing a similar stunt on the other table after being tackled by quick-thinking referee Olivier Marteel.

Earlier on Saturday, some members of the environmentalist group demonstrated in front of Big Ben, in central London. They were demonstrating during the ‘Not My Bill’ protest, called by different groups to demonstrate against Government's anti-protest laws, anti-strike laws, anti-traveller laws and the illegal migration bill.
