A Texas shopper says a frightening experience inside a Walmart left her convinced she was being watched by strangers, before police helped reveal what was actually happening.
TikTok creator Baleigh Marie shared the encounter with her followers, saying she spent hours shaken after what happened during a routine shopping trip. Marie explained that she was browsing the women’s department at Walmart when another shopper approached her and warned that several men appeared to be following her.
According to Marie, the woman told her that “there has been three men that are watching you” and claimed they were wearing similar hats, carrying phones, and repeatedly looking in her direction. The warning left Marie feeling uneasy, and she recalled sitting in her cart asking herself, “What do I do?”
The shopper began looking for a way to get help
When Marie noticed one of the men nearby, she became more concerned about the situation. “I’m just sitting there, like, in my buggy, like, freaking out,” she recalled, explaining that she had tried calling her husband and brother for help but neither could get to the store.
As her concerns grew, Marie says she moved toward checkout and looked for someone who could help. She explained that she approached another shopper after feeling overwhelmed, telling him, “This is what’s going on. This woman approached me, said people are following me. I’m really nervous, and I just want to go home.” The man and his wife stayed with her while she finished checking out and spoke with Walmart employees about what had happened.

After leaving the store, Marie reveals she contacted a family friend who works as a police officer and later spoke with authorities about what happened. According to her account, the officer contacted Walmart about the situation and later provided a different explanation for what she had seen.
According to Marie, the men were actually undercover Walmart employees working in loss prevention. The officer reportedly explained that they follow shoppers as part of their job, particularly in areas where theft could be a concern. “They were following you,” the officer told Marie, explaining that the behavior was part of their duties.
The explanation left Marie feeling conflicted. She admitted she felt embarrassed after sharing the experience online and making a report, saying, “I was like, oh my gosh, like, I just feel stupid.” However, she also maintained that her concerns were based on what she saw happening around her, adding, “They did do all the things that I was nervous about. They just happen to be doing it because it’s their job.”
Marie’s experience also highlights the confusion that can come with store security measures. Customers may not always know whether someone watching them is part of a retailer’s loss prevention efforts or simply behaving suspiciously, with similar questions emerging around how closely Walmart monitors activity inside its stores.
“They were following me. They were watching me,” Marie said in her update, explaining that the behavior she noticed was real even if the reason behind it was different than she first believed.
