Influencer who stalked Scottish football star Billy Gilmour handed suspended sentence

A social media influencer who faked her own pregnancy and stalked Scottish footballer Billy Gilmour and fellow teammates has been handed a 12-week suspended prison sentence.

Orla Melissa Sloan had admitted to stalking and harassing the Brighton midfielder, and his former Chelsea teammates Mason Mount, 24, and Ben Chilwell, 26.

The 22-year-old dubbed herself 'Devil Baby' as she used a number of different social media accounts and phone numbers to contact the players, after Mount ended a brief romance with her.

Sloan also claimed to have fallen pregnant with Gilmour's child, despite the pair never having sex, reports the Record.

She appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today and was given a 12-week suspended prison sentence, 30-day rehabilitation order, 200 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay Gilmour £500.

She has been told to pay Mount and Chilwell £300 each, as well as being ordered to pay £85 costs and a £154 victim surcharge.

Sloan, from Exeter, previously pleaded guilty to causing “serious alarm or distress” by stalking Gilmour between September 10 and October 28 last year.

She also admitted stalking Mount between June 19 and October 28 last year, as well as causing harassment to Chilwell between October 20 and October 29 2022.

The court heard Sloan met the Chelsea stars after she had set up an OnlyFans account, as part of her bid to become a popular social media influencer.

Gilmour, from Ardrossan, previously told of how he was left unable to sleep due to the ordeal. The court heard he had messaged Sloan briefly after they met at a house party but he then tried to cut off contact.

But Sloan began stalking him in summer 2022 and even claimed to have fallen pregnant by him. In one message, she menacingly told him: “I will hunt you down”, and made “erratic and random” comments aimed at Gilmour and his family.

Gilmour said: “I have not been able to sleep and have had to take sleeping tablets. It’s had a negative effect on my performance and professional life.

“Being in a new town where I don’t have my friends or family, it’s really upsetting. I don’t know who I can trust anymore. Some of the information would only have been known by people close to me.”

Sloan met the footballers, all then playing for Chelsea, at a house party thrown by Chilwell in November 2020 and ended up sleeping with Mount.

He then faced a “bombardment of messages” from Sloan, who ignored his requests to stop contact and she set up at least 21 different phone numbers to continue the pursuit.

The court heard Sloan sent the star a picture of herself buying a new phone number, along with the caption “I’m not buying food any more so I can get more numbers – I will be faster than you.”

Sloan created an account on Instagram called devilbaby_10 and used it to call Mount a "criminal", post collages of the player with other women and attempt to contact his friends and family.

She also posted collages of Chilwell while attempting to make contact with him, and made a claim online about his sexuality.

Michael Cogan, a barrister representing Sloan, said the offending began when she believed she was going to be in a relationship with Mount but he cut her off.

“Unfortunately Ms Sloan thought there was rather more to it than that”, he said. “She is not only young but also incredibly naive.”

And he added: “She is extremely sorry she took matters to the level she did. She publicly apologises to each and every one of the complainants in this case.”

A five-year restraining order was imposed, banning her from contacting the footballers in the future.
