Cardiff City vs Leeds United player ratings as star puts in 'monster' performance and forwards finally click

Jak Alnwick 8

Made a crucial intervention when he raced off his line to cut out a clever ball in behind the City defence. Commanded his area well from crosses. Made a terrific save from Rodrigo's penalty.

Tom Sang 8

Had an unenviable task against the talented Crysencio Summerville but did fantastically well. Hit clever balls down the channel and behind the Leeds defenders, including one which ultimately led to Philogene's goal.

Curtis Nelson 7

Captained the side and was assured in the air and on the ground. Him and Sang were outjumped by Rodrigo for the first Leeds goal.

Jack Simpson 7

Made a terrific, sliding block early on to deny Darko Gyabi a shot on goal. Generally pretty assured, all things considered.

Joel Bagan 7

Started shakily but very much grew into it. Linked up nicely with Philogene and Ojo at times. Some signs of encouragement for him. Sent off for a red card on the line, but had to take one for the team.

Jaden Philogene 8

Was on hand to slot home the first goal and you could see his confidence subsequently rocket through the roof, pulling out some skilful moves to get past Leeds players.

Romaine Sawyers 8

Was worried about how he would fare in a midfield two but, to his credit, did an excellent job at calming things down and spreading the ball out.

Andy Rinomhota 9 (star man)

Needed his bite and industry in midfield. Produced a stunning ball over the top to Ojo for his goal. Put in a monster of a performance in midfield. Pick of the bunch.

Sheyi Ojo 8

His best performance of the season. Looked so comfortable running at defenders and was generally careful with the ball in his control. Took his goal tremendously well, chesting down before rifling a half-volley into the roof of the net.

Mark Harris 8

Top outing from the forward, who showcased his maturity in running clever lines and drawing fouls in advantageous positions for City. Did all the legwork for Philogene's goal, making a clever run before holding his composure after his own shot was saved. Did well to feed Rinomhota for Ojo's goal, too.

Isaak Davies 7

Pascal Struijk, in particular, look petrified at Davies' turn of pace. Cardiff put the ball in behind, got Leeds defenders facing their own goal and Davies clipped at their heels. Had a hand in Philogene's goal.

SUBS

Ollie Tanner (Davies 63) 6 - Was tasked with running around like a headless chicken as Cardiff looked to boot the ball upfield and were down to 10 men. Had varied success.

Callum O'Dowda (Philogene 77) NA

Ryan Wintle (Sawyers 77) NA

Joe Ralls (Ojo 87) NA

Perry Ng (Harris 87) NA
