Arsenal handed fresh Cody Gakpo January transfer bid hint amid Ten Hag Man United comments

Arsenal are gearing up for a potentially huge January transfer window as they return to the Premier League sitting top of the table at Christmas. Their five-point gap to Manchester City in second place could mean the Gunners are in their best position to win the title for years to come.

One area for Mikel Arteta to solve in the window is the forward department, with the need for depth and quality for beyond January. With a lack of options beyond Bukayo Saka on the right-wing and an injury to Gabriel Jesus for the next few months, the manager has hinted at arrivals.

“We will be in the market always active and we will asses the biggest opportunities that we have. This squad doesn’t have the luxury of not maximising every single window. We are looking to strengthen this team.”

One option that has been linked with fixing both areas is PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, with his versatility offering plenty in the attacking areas. The 23-year-old was rumoured with a switch in the summer, but stayed in the Eredivisie, where he has 21 goal involvements in 14 appearances.

The World Cup only added fuel to the fire over a transfer, scoring three goals in five appearances for the Netherlands to show his ability on the biggest stage. The Gunners aren't the only side linked though, as Manchester United are also said to be interested after missing out on signing him in the summer too.

A hint was dropped by United boss Erik ten Hag over a switch in January that Arsenal may have to take note of, telling reporters when he was asked on the forward: "There were many, many good players in the World Cup..." When it was followed up with questions over a potential bid, he smiled and said: "Van Nistelrooy [PSV boss] says there’s a point when you can’t say no to bids? You can say that for many players!"

It means the Gunners may have to make their move early if they want to beat their Premier League rivals to landing a potential superstar for the future.
