4 Foods You Must Avoid to Control High Blood Pressure

High blood is a dangerous condition in which the blood forces against vessel walls at high levels consistently. Also known as "silent killer" as the symptoms frequently remain unrecognised, high bp can create life-threatening problems like stroke, kidney damage and heart attack. As many of us might already know smoking, stress, a sedentary lifestyle etc play important roles in the development of this condition, some of the foods that we eat can unknowingly lead us to this issue. In this article, we will learn about 4 food that items that we should avoid in order to protect ourselves from high BP or hypertension.

1. Fried Foods

Deep fried foods are high in trans fats which can increase LDL or “bad” cholesterol level in our body, straining our hearts very badly. Additionally, consistent intake of fried foods are known to increase unnecessary weight, stiffness of arteries and inflammation. All these aspects will directly contribute to high BP.

2. Canned Foods & Pickles

A key reason for the development of hypertension is sodium which is mainly found in salt. Canned foods and pickles are packed with a lot of salts for preservation. Therefore, those individuals who are struggling with high BP should avoid these foods entirely. Others should check the labels and make sure that the food item contain low-sodium before buying in order to protect their hearts.

3. Sugary Drinks

A study named ‘Dietary sugar consumption and health’ that was published in BMJ or British Medical Journal in 2023 pointed out that those people who eat sugar more than the daily recommended intake face a 26% higher risk of being affected by hypertension. In fact, sugary drinks like energy drinks or sodas are known to raise our blood sugar and to increase resistance towards insulin. These issues will result in the heightening of BP.

4. Processed Meats & Junk Foods

Processed meats such as sausages are filled with preservatives like nitrates and sodium. Both of these elements are known to raise BP. Thus, we should consume unprocessed and lean protein such as fish or chicken instead of processed meats.

Junk foods like pizzas, fries and burgers come to us with a lot of sodium, calories and fats that are unhealthy in nature. These are all elements that negatively impact our hearts. Hence, it is always advisable to eat meals that are cooked at home with fresh and natural ingredients.
