The business empire of Gautam Adani is again in turmoil after the billionaire Indian tycoon was charged in the United States with paying exorbitant bribes to secure lucrative government contracts.

The Supreme Court today reserved its verdict in a batch of petitions seeking a court-monitoring inquiry into fraud allegations made by Hindenburg Research against the Adani Group, Bar and Bench reported.

The Congress on Monday claimed that recent media reports have “further illuminated” close links between the Adani group and a “shadowy network” of the group’s confidants who are allegedly involved in round-tripping, money laundering and brazen violations of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) laws.

MUMBAI: Adani Group shares and bonds declined after potentially controversial owners of its stock were identified in a new investigation, dealing the Indian conglomerate a fresh blow after short-seller Hindenburg Research in January alleged the group engaged in corporate fraud and stock price manipulation.

Citing review of files from multiple tax havens and internal Adani Group emails, OCCRP said its investigation found at least two cases where the “mysterious” investors bought and sold Adani stock through such offshore structures.
