The Securities and Exchange Board of India has filed civil appeals before the Supreme Court against NDTV, its founder-promoters Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, and promoter-group vehicle RRPR.

NDTV co-founders Radhika and Prannoy Roy have moved the Supreme Court for civil appeals against an order issued in July by the Securities Appellate Tribunal, or SAT.

The channel that has played a role in modernising India’s TV news reporting and has never shied away from taking critical positions on the government could be controlled by the Adani Group soon

Responding to disclosures by NDTV promoter RRPR Holding Private Limited, the Adani Group has said that the promoter’s contentions are “baseless” and “legally untenable”, and it is bound to “allot equity shares as specified in the warrant exercise notice”.

In a regulatory filing on Thursday, NDTV had contended that the Adani Group may not be able to complete its deal to buy RRPR Holdings as Prannoy, Radhika Roy have been restrained from dealing in securities by a 2020 SEBI order

The media company said, Adani Group would need to take approval from market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to complete the transaction. Read more on Dynamite News:
