Members of the public have left flowers for 38-year-old Barry Martin, who died earlier on Friday.

Police Scotland have confirmed the sad news that 38-year-old Barry Martin has died in hospital following a horror blaze in the city centre on Monday. Four fellow firefighters were also taken to hospital

Mr Martin is being treated at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Five firefighters were rushed to hospital on Monday after tackling a blaze in the old Jenners building. Smoke billowed out onto St David street as 40 fighters tried to control it.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that a member of the fire crew tackling the Jenners incident is in critical condition and that several other members are being treated for injuries sustained at the scene.

Crews have been tackling the blaze since Monday morning. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Interim Chief Officer said the families of colleagues hurt had been made aware.
