Record flooding on the Fitzroy River is causing havoc across the Kimberley, with authorities warning many communities could be cut off for a week.

Roads have turned into rivers, cows are struggling to survive in fast flowing waters and boats have become the only form of transport in parts of the central Kimberley as ex-Tropical Cyclone Ellie continues to batter northern Australia.

Last week, four Indonesian fishermen were convicted for taking shark fins and poaching fish in Australian waters. The four men were spotted off remote Niiwalarra/Sir Graham Moore island in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, more than 150 nautical miles inside Australia’s exclusive economic zone.

A court has been told four men were charged after being seen in waters off the West Australian Kimberley coast just six days after Australian navy crew members had previously asked them to leave.
