In a wild finish at Talladega, Tyler Reddick surged from fifth to first when race leader Michael McDowell pulled a failed double block on Brad Keselowski in the closing moments of the race. McDowell spun, collecting most of the field in the ensuing crash.

Elliott ran strong throughout Sunday’s race and a late-race wreck sent up an overtime restart that put Elliott alongside Hendrick Motorsports teammate and leader William Byron on the front row.

Hendrick was originally scheduled to serve as the honorary pace car driver for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup race, which was also the 40th anniversary of HMS’ first Cup win by Geoffrey Bodine.
