Charles Leclerc will start the race from pole position, leading an all-Ferrari front row lockout.

Ferrari secured a shock front row lockout with Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Max Verstappen, who had topped all three practice sessions, ended the decisive Q3 session third fastest for Red Bull.

Haas brought a huge package of upgrades to Austin, and like others who faced the challenge of only having FP1 in which to hone updated cars, the team struggled to optimise the VF-23.

The 27-year-old, who is currently a reserve and test driver for Haas F1 Team, will drive the team’s #30 Honda-powered entry.

 

Verstappen spun around after hitting the kerbs in the second segment of the weekend’s shorter qualifying session, where the drivers were obliged to run mediums in Q1 and Q2 and then softs in Q3. 

In an unexpectedly close session between Red Bull and its typically trailing rivals, Leclerc led the way for Ferrari through Q2 and again on the first runs in Q3.

The American-owned outfit is bringing a major upgrade to its VF-23 for the Austin weekend which it hopes will help it make some progress after a challenging 2023 campaign so far.
