Govt's ₹20,000 cr NMCG mission has installed treatment plants to treat 20% of sewage generated in 5 major States along Ganga. This is expected to increase to 33% by 2024 and 60% by 2026. NMCG plans to set up 7,000 MLD of sewage treatment plants by 2026.

At a high-level meeting, it was decided to create 2 lakh cusecs flood discharge capacity, replace 65-year-old crest gates, study flood protection works on rivers like Ganga, Brahmaputra, take protection measures for key installations, relocate affected villages, take mitigation measures for 7 major streams, and propose interventions like groynes/spurs.
