The fatal shooting of Minneapolis man Alex Pretti by federal immigration officers has sparked calls for an independent investigation

The pullback came after Trump and Walz had a "productive" phone call on the situation in Minnesota.

The White House on Monday made an effort to distance President Donald Trump from comments made by several members of his administration that criminalized Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti, who was shot and killed Saturday by a Border Patrol officer

During a recent interview, Gregory Bovino said Alex Pretti was "actively impeding" and "assaulting" law enforcement and praised the agents' response, adding that Pretti had inserted himself into "an active law enforcement scene."

Following the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by a Border Patrol agent, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and President Trump held a "productive" call. Trump agreed to allow the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the incident and to review reducing federal agent numbers in the state.

Although the president initially reinforced that plainly inaccurate narrative, his subsequent comments cast doubt on the initial justification for shooting the Minneapolis protester.

Other Texas Republicans have called for the Trump administration to double down on sending immigration officers to Minnesota and blamed Democrats for the violence, while others have remained silent.
