Microsoft’s AI assistant is coming to the apps you use daily. The company has rolled out Copilot Chat and agents in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote for all Microsoft 365 users, creating a single, unified chat experience across the suite.
It is said to turn Copilot into a personal assistant for work. Whether drafting a report, analysing data, or managing email, you can now access Copilot directly in a side pane. The best part about this update is that you will not have to switch apps or copy and paste content elsewhere. Plus, the tool is content-aware, which means it tailors its answers to the file you’re working on. And for Microsoft 365 users, there’s no extra cost to use Copilot Chat.
A simple “/” command lets you pull in files or search for what you need, and Copilot will even suggest your most recent documents automatically. Microsoft has also added some enhancements, like you can upload multiple images directly into chat, the input box is larger for editing longer prompts, and there’s quick access to features like Pages, image generation, and agents.
Licensed Copilot users will get priority access to premium features like file uploads, image generation, and in-app Researcher and Analyst agents for advanced reasoning.
Apart from that, enterprise users aren’t left out either. IT admins can manage Copilot usage through the Copilot Control System (CCS), which gives tools to secure and analyse activity, enforce compliance, and track adoption trends through the Copilot Dashboard.
While the tech giant is busy improving its productivity apps, there’s another major shift coming. As Microsoft is going to end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, which is less than 30 days from now. PCs running Windows 10 will continue to work, but they’ll no longer get security updates.
However, in order to ease the transition, Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 will keep receiving security updates until October 10, 2028, and feature updates through August 2026, but without any technical support.
By unifying Copilot Chat across Microsoft 365 and phasing out its aging OS, Microsoft is signaling a clear push toward a more AI-driven and secure productivity ecosystem.
