Women's T20 World Cup: Harleen replaces injured Mandhana as Pakistan elect to bat against India

NEW DELHI: Pakistan skipper Bismah Maroof won the toss and opted to bat against India in their opening ICC Women's T20 World Cup Group B match in Cape Town on Sunday.

India brought in Harleen Deol to replace Smriti Mandhana, who is out of the opening match after suffering a finger injury during a warm-up game against Australia.

Mandhana is expected to be fit for India's next match against the West Indies on Wednesday.

"The wicket looks a little dry so we want to put up a total first," said Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof.

India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur also said she would have opted to bat first had she won the toss.

"Our bowlers did really well in the tri-series," she said, referring to a pre-World Cup tournament in South Africa which also featured the host nation and the West Indies," Harmanpreet said.

Shikha Pandey did not find a place in the playing XI.
