Woman in stitches after ordering bouquet over the phone as owner mishears

A woman was left in stitches after ordering a poppy bouquet over the phone - but she ended up with puppies after the owner misheard.

Sarah Hollingsworth, 35, who runs baby registry company Poppylist, wanted the flowers to take to an exhibition in San Diego, US.

She decided to call up a florist and placed an order asking for poppies.

When she was asked by the owner how many she wanted, Sarah was left slightly confused but she didn't think much more of it.

However, when the bouquet arrived, she realised what had happened - as she was looking at floral puppies.

Sarah, who lives in Austin, Texas, said: "The woman and I were talking on the phone.

"I said I wanted some poppy flowers as it’s the name of my company but also the flower of California.

“It’s funny thinking back because I remember her asking me how many I wanted, which I thought was strange.

“I said, 'I’m not sure - I guess two?'

“We then both hung up phone, she probably just as confident as me that our conversation had been totally mutually understood.”

Sarah's parents then picked up the flowers a few days later, which they all unwrapped it together.

She said: “At first I was like these aren’t poppies.

“I took off the wrapping and then saw these weird googly eyes and thought, 'What are those doing there?’.

“I took a step back and it was then so obvious it was two dogs. They had misheard me say puppy instead of poppy.

“We were all cry laughing, it was hilarious."

Rather than return the order, Sarah put them front and centre at the exhibition.

She said: “I didn’t even call to return because they’re so good! It’s the best, most ridiculous mess up.

“It acted as the perfect icebreaker on our booth.

Sarah shared a clip of her and her family discovering the mishap, which has since gone viral.

The mum to two girls - Amelia, four, and Zoe, one - says it’s been nice to have something explode online where the reaction has been “exclusively positive.”

One TikTok user commented on the video, which has since been liked over half a million times: “Let's be honest, puppies > poppies, this floral shop wins!

While another wrote: “I like that the florist was probably like “that’s an odd request…” but just did it anyway no questions asked.”
