Woman fighting for life in hospital after collapsing at airport in Turkey

A woman is fighting for her life in a Turkish hospital after suffering a seizure.

Melissa Kinsella, known affectionately as Missy by friends and family, was due to fly home on Monday, May 15, but collapsed in the airport. The mum-of-three, from Moreton, Merseyside, was rushed to hospital and doctors told her family she had swelling on her brain and heart.

Currently, she is in a coma in intensive care and is unable to breathe for herself. One of Melissa's best friends, Rebecca Dath, said the 30-year-old complained on social media the day before she collapsed that she believed she was suffering from heatstroke.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Rebecca said: "She was vomiting, felt unwell and that was the day before. When she got to the airport, she had a seizure and collapsed. That's been it since, she has been in intensive care on life support in Turkey."

Rebecca added: "Doctors don't know what has caused it, but she has swelling on the brain and swelling on her heart. Missy's mum and dad were holidaying in Turkey in another area with Missy's auntie and uncles and cousins. Jay rang her auntie because her heart stopped and her children were there."

Melissa was on holiday with her partner Jay Smith, his family and three children, Chloe, nine, Beau, four, and Romi, two.

A GoFundMe has now been set up to help raise funds for Melissa's medical costs. So far, the family have raised more than £26,000 to help pay for the £1,800-a-day hospital fees.

The family said they hope the funds will go towards an air ambulance to bring Melissa home which will cost £42,000.
