- A new vaccine for gonorrhoea will be rolled out by the NHS in England in a world first.
- The vaccine will initially be available to gay and bisexual men, who are at the highest risk of infection.
- Other high-risk individuals, such as sex workers, will also be able to request the vaccine.
- This comes amidst a record rise in gonorrhoea cases in the UK, particularly antibiotic-resistant strains, and a general increase in STIs.
- The vaccine, already used for meningococcal B disease, is expected to offer up to 40 per cent protection against gonorrhoea.
