West Ham manager David Moyes gives verdict on Manchester United winning goal

David Moyes was frustrated with the way his West Ham United side switched off in the final seconds to allow Manchester United a dramatic winner at Old Trafford.

But Moyes had no issues with United's winning goal, which was reviewed by VAR following a tight offside call against Edinson Cavani, who set up Marcus Rashford for a tap-in in front of the Stretford End.

The footage showed Cavani was very close to being offside, but the Premier League released an image that showed he was being played onside by Craig Dawson.

Plenty of Hammers fans were unconvinced by that explanation, but Moyes was happy to place his faith in VAR. He found it harder to stomach Rashford's late winner, however, and started his press conference after the game by declaring he was "p****d off with that result, that's for sure."

Of the goal, Moyes said: " I’ve not seen it again, by all accounts everyone seems to think it’s fine so we have to trust VAR that they're getting decisions right."

United's 93rd-minute winner involved all three substitutes, with Anthony Martial passing to Cavani, who squared it to Rashford, but Moyes didn't think those changes actually changed the game and was more frustrated with how his side switched off in the lead up to the goal.

"I just see it as them having a strong squad. I didn’t think them bringing them on made it that much different," he said.

"We defended well enough but we completely switched off, we didn't do things you learn as a young player when trying to see games out.

"We had a good defensive organisation but we lacked what we’ve had in recent weeks, our attacking play wasn’t at the level. There was a lot of good things about it but the result is the key thing.

"I’m not coming to these games to roll over and lose, I’m really disappointed with the result but really pleased with how the players have performed.

"For long parts today I was pleased with them, defensively rather than our attacking play. We’ve moved up a level or two over the last year, I’m enjoying it but that result today was hard to take."
