'We still need more' - Wes Brown sends transfer message to Erik ten Hag and Manchester United

Wes Brown has praised this season's new signings but knows Manchester United need to keep adding in order to mount a future title challenge.

Erik ten Hag's first season at United has already been an undisputed success, with February's Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle ending a six-year trophy drought. The Reds remain in the running for both the FA Cup and Europa League as well, with a cup treble very much on the cards.

Key to this season's success has been the effectiveness of several summer additions, with Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez in particular pivotal to Ten Hag's plans. The likes of Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen have also been effective throughout, with Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst joining up in January.

"I think with the team and the squad that we’ve got, we still need more players," Brown told Sky Sports. "It's getting there slowly, the additions this season have been really good, but more are needed.

"Once you've got that squad of players where it doesn't matter who plays, the fans are happy and the manager is happy, you're in a good headspace and a good place. Hopefully it happens soon and we can get on with it."

A spend of over £200million has laid the foundations for what is hoped to be a successful squad, but with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle all likely to spend big money in the summer, United will need to invest heavily again in order to keep the pace.

A potential takeover of the club towards the end of this campaign could see Ten Hag's transfer coffers reloaded, and MEN Sport understands the Dutchman will sanction at least two major signings - one of which is expected to be a world-class striker, with Harry Kane earmarked as the prime target.

Central midfield is also a known priority for United, with an over-reliance on Casemiro's presence this season evident in the drop of form that has coincided with his suspensions.
