Liverpool will face Wolves for the third time in less than a month on Saturday when they face a trip to Molineux in the Premier League.
The misery was piled on for Liverpool in their last outing, with the Reds conceding in the 92nd minute to lose 2-1 to Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round. It was Liverpool's ninth defeat of the season in all competitions, with Jurgen Klopp's side now out of both domestic cup competitions and 10th in the Premier League table.
The bad news kept coming for the Reds as Ibrahima Konate was handed a spell on the sidelines with an injury at the end of January, limiting the defensive options following Virgil van Dijk's injury earlier this season. Liverpool faced Wolves twice in the FA Cup last month, drawing 2-2 at Anfield before winning 1-0 in the replay in the west Midlands.
Can the Reds return to winning ways when they face Wolves this weekend? We simulated the clash to find out.
Wolves vs Liverpool score predicted by simulation
To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 23 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.
We predict that Wolves could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Sa; Semedo, Collins, Kilman, Bueno; Neves, Nunes; Traore, Sarabia, Hee-Chan; Jimenez.
We predict that Liverpool could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson; Bajetic, Henderson, Thiago; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.
A poor start to the game saw Liverpool quickly become the underdogs at Molineux, with the hosts controlling possession and creating dangerous chances. Pablo Sarabia was allowed plenty of space in midfield to pull the strings, and the Spaniard played a big role in the hosts taking the lead.
A one-two with Ruben Neves saw Sarabia skip past Fabinho before taking aim from distance, and his effort was pushed away from goal by Alisson after bouncing just in front of the 'keeper. Hwang Hee-Chan was quickest to react to the loose ball and fire back at the 'keeper, and a mistake from Alisson saw the ball creep through his hands at the near post and into the net.
Despite going behind, there was no response from the Reds, with the best chance falling to Jordan Henderson early in the second half as the ball fell kindly for the midfielder just inside the box, but his powerful strike flew wide of the target. Alisson may have made the error that led to the Wolves goal, but the Brazilian made some big saves to keep the game at 1-0.
His best came in the 75th minute, with Hee-Chan breaking away from Trent Alexander-Arnold to go through on goal, but his strike was fantastically tipped over by Alisson. Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo broke forward late on in a two-versus-one situation, but the chance was wasted as Salah's cross evaded the Dutchman, and the Reds fell to defeat.
FIFA 23 predicted score: Wolves 1-0 Liverpool
Here are the full-time match stats:
FIFA 23 predicts that Liverpool could produce yet another poor performance away from home, with the Reds losing 1-0 in the simulation. A rare Alisson error allowed the hosts to take the lead, but a lacklustre attacking display saw Klopp's side fail to trouble Wolves and leave the west Midlands with nothing.
