Warren Buffett Doesn't Own Nvidia — But His 3 Picks Are Better

It's tempting to look enviously at investors who own Nvidia: The AI giant's value just jumped to $4 trillion. But Warren Buffett can take comfort in the fact that he's doing even better on some of his S&P 500 picks.

Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owns three stocks that are topping the year-to-date returns of Nvidia: Verisign, Heico and Capital One Financial. All of these stocks are up more than Nvidia's 22% gain this year.

And topping Nvidia is no small feat. Much of the S&P 500's rally this summer is concentrated in a few high-tech stocks Buffett doesn't own, like Nvidia.

"The broader market has continued its climb after breaking past the February highs late last month," said Adam Turnquist, chief technical strategist for LPL Financial. "However, the rally over the last month has been relatively narrow, with five stocks — Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta Platforms, Broadcom and Amazon — contributing to over half of the S&P 500's 5.2% total return."

Looking At Buffett's 'Nvidias'

Nvidia investors might look enviously at Buffett's top stock this year: VeriSign. The payment processing firm's shares are up a blistering 39% so far. And that's paying off for Buffett, who owns 14.2% of the company's stock.

It's easy to see what he likes in the stock looking at its chart. It sports an RS Rating of 91 and EPS Rating of 80. Additionally, analysts think profit will rise 10% in 2025, marking the fourth straight year of double-digit growth.

Heico, a supplier of jet airplane parts, is another winner for Buffett. Shares are up more than 30% this year. The stock is extended. But it still sports an RS Rating of 87 and EPS Rating of 96. Analysts forecast strong 28% earnings growth this year.

Rounding Up The Year For Buffett

Additionally, Buffett continues to profit from financials. Shares of Capital One are up nearly 24% this year.

But if there's any knock against Buffett, it's in his largest position: Apple. The gadget maker's shares are down 15% this year as the iPhone maker slips further behind in AI. For now, though, Buffett has other positions to make up for the falling Apple.
