Warning to parents after illegal 'Skitle vapes' aimed at children found in shops

A warning has been issued to parents after vapes 'clearly appealing to children' were found being sold in shops. The 'Skitle' vapes have been found in Rochdale purporting to be related to the Skittles brand of sweets to appeal to children.

These vapes infringe the trademark rights of the sweets brand and contain 'highly addictive' nicotine. Rochdale council is therefore concerned about children becoming addicted to the drug through the vape which comes in flavours such as 'fruit' and 'tropical'.

The vapes have been found on sale by the Rochdale Borough Council trading standards team, with many bags seized. These colourful, and sweet flavoured vapes have become increasingly popular amongst children and teens nationwide. However, many of these are illegal and unregulated, containing higher than usual amounts of nicotine.

Rochdale Council has issued a warning to parents in the borough saying children should 'not be experimenting' with vapes, and to ask parents and carers to be on the 'lookout' for their children using these vapes. A Council spokesman said: "Our Trading Standards team have recently found ‘Skitle’ vapes on sale within the borough.

The vapes are 'clearly aimed at children' the council said (Rochdale Council)

"These vapes infringe the trademark rights of Skittles sweets and are clearly appealing to children. This is a real concern as nicotine is highly addictive and children should not be experimenting with these products. We would urge parents and carers to be on the lookout for their children using vapes."

Anyone with information about the sale of these vapes in the borough is asked to contact trading.standards@rochdale.gov.uk.
