Vanessa Feltz huge weight loss sparked by intensive care stay and spicy sex life

Vanessa Feltz was recently told by her Celebrity Big Brother pal Ulrika Jonsson she is in the "best shape" as she discussed her split from Ben Ofoedu.

The TV star, 60, hit the headlines as she sadly announced her breakup from Ben, 50, earlier this week.

Former BBC Radio host Vanessa was offered some comforting words by her pal Ulrika, 55, who told her on her Talk TV show: "Yes, well that often happens and I think that's the case in my life – the time's when I've been my skinniest is when I've not been my happiest.

"But, actually what you should remember is that you are in your best... you're like the fittest you've ever been, the best looking and you're in the greatest shape!"

Vanessa has been incredibly open about her weight loss after she shed around three stone in 2019.

Speculation was rife about her transformation at the time, and she later revealed on This Morning that her weight loss followed a terrifying dash to hospital and a stint in intensive care.

Vanessa had a gastric band fitted in 2010, but was left in a bad way as she was suffering from symptoms including reflux.

She sought urgent medical attention and was told her gastric band had slipped. The TV star was then advised to have the band removed and encouraged to consider a gastric bypass instead.

Explaining her decision to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby in a 2019 TV interview, Vanessa said: "In January I thought okay then… my symptoms were getting worse and worse and it was urgent to take it out, so I thought okay let’s do both."

But during the operation, it was discovered that the slipped band had embedded itself in Vanessa’s liver.

While they managed to remove the band, Vanessa explained how it had to “be carefully dissected” which “took time”, and led to complications.

Following the procedure, Vanessa spent some time in intensive care but was still able to have the gastric bypass done.

Since then, Vanessa has been "a little less interested in food" and has lost three stone.

She said: "I’ve lost just under three stone which is great. It’s good for the joints, good for the heart, good for diabetes and good for buying clothes."

The following year, Vanessa shed more weight – taking her weight loss up to four stone – which she credited to a healthier diet and fitness regime.

She also credited her spicy sex life to helping keep her active.

During an appearance on This Morning, talk turned to her sex life as she discussed her weight loss and revealed she and Ben had been doing it "whenever and wherever we want".

She revealed: "I was peeling the vegetables for dinner one day, and ended up leaving a trail of celery and leeks for him, leading to me, spread-eagled."
