Uttar Pradesh: Kamlesh Tiwari’s wife gets threat, security stepped up

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Police has stepped up the security of Kiran Tiwari – the wife of Hindu Samaj Party chief Kamlesh Tiwari, who was murdered in 2019 allegedly for his comments against Prophet Muhammad – after the family received a fresh threat letter on June 22.

Kiran Tiwari informed the police that she received a letter, written in Urdu, which stated that she would meet the same fate as that of her husband. She said that she did not inform the police earlier as she already had a round-the-clock police security at her residence.

Additional deputy commissioner of police, west zone, Chiranjeev Nath Sinha, said: "We are trying to identify the sender of the letter. It is a serious matter, therefore, we have deployed three more cops in her security cover which now comprises eight policemen."

"We have also installed four more CCTV cameras outside the house of Kiran Tiwari. The policemen on duty have also been asked to note down the names of people entering the house even if they are from her own family," Nath said.

"Security will be provided to Kiran Tiwari whenever she goes out of the city," he said.

Kiran’s husband Kamlesh Tiwari (45), who was the national president of the Hindu Samaj Party and a self-proclaimed leader of the Hindu Mahasabha, was stabbed to death at his office-cum-residence in Khurshedbagh area under Naka Hindola police station area on October 18, 2019.

Investigations had revealed that the killing was linked to Tiwari’s objectionable remarks against Prophet Muhammad in 2015. At least 13 persons were arrested by UPATS and anti-terrorist units from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Karnataka.

On December 24, 2019, police filed a charge sheet against all the accused on charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, harbouring offenders, causing disappearance of evidence, cheating and dishonesty, besides charges under the Arms Act and the Information Technology Act.
