I take my upcoming horror games deadly seriously. I've been covering all things that go bump in the night since I joined GamesRadar+, and take it from me: there are plenty of new games on the way for us horror fans to watch for in 2026 and beyond.
We're in June now, and with that comes some very fun upcoming indie games that I've been eyeing up for awhile. Further down the line, we have a new Silent Hill entry on the horizon (which just got a release date during June's Playstation State of Play) alongside some terrifying adaptations of the best horror movies ever made.
Even more exciting amid everything announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 is the long-awaited next big Resident Evil remake, with Capcom describing it as a "reimagined" take on a key moment in the Resident Evil timeline. You'll have to wait 'til 2027 for that one, and same goes for the new Alien Isolation game, but there's plenty of upcoming horror games to tuck into in the meantime.
To help you keep track of all the nightmarish virtual offerings on the way, I've made a handy guide rounding up all the key players in order of release. And remember: when it comes to upcoming horror games, you'll never be alone... there's always something creeping in the dark beside you. Preferably, this list.
The top upcoming horror games to watch for in 2026 (and beyond)
Upcoming horror games in 2026
Backrooms Lost Runners
Developer: ShimStudioGames
Platform(s): PC
Release date: June 17, 2026
Thanks to the recent Backrooms A24 horror movie that recently released, the appetite for a new horror game set in the liminal space nightmare is at an all-time high. Backrooms Lost Runners is here to fill that void. This is a cooperative survival-horror with puzzles to solve and monsters who will be drawn to the sound of your voice and lurk in the shadows. There is a storyline to follow here, though, a sanity system to manage, and valuable items to find. I will say that I've been burned before when it comes to Backrooms games, so I'm keeping my eye on this one very critically. So far, it does look pretty good though.
Shift At Midnight
Developer: Bun Muen
Platform(s): PC
Release date: June 18, 2026
Shift At Midnight is an upcoming online horror game that's already getting a ton of buzz online. Its premise is very simple: you and two other friends are working the graveyard shift at a rural '90s gas station. However, some of your customers aren't exactly human. You'll have to double-check your customer's ID and can ask them up to five questions. One slip on your end can end up costing your life, though, so be careful. If a monster does get through, be prepared to get a gun and barricade some doors. This looks like a streamer hit already, and its long-awaited June launch date is music to my ears.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu
Developer: ACE Team
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
Release date: July 15, 2026
If you're a longtime reader of this page, then you know that I love some Lovecraftian horror. So of course, I had to share the upcoming release, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu. Most of the Cthulhu games that we've seen in 2026 so far have been single-player affairs, but this time, you'll be in a team searching for treasure together in a cursed jungle. Each expedition you take draws you deeper into the jungle and madness, so you'll need to work together to stay alive and sane at the end of the day. Sign me up.
I.T. Never Ends
Developer: Dadbod Games
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC August, 2026
Interacting analog horror I.T. Never Ends is coming out this August, though the precise calendar day still eludes us. This spooky indie gem has my full attention though, capturing the immersion of a found footage horror movie with a truly unnerving premise: you're a new recruit at a tech company run by "cosmic horrors", according to the Steam bio, and you must simply try to survive the night shift by completing tasks. It' an upcoming horror game for lovers of a good desktop sim-meets-workplace mystery, so you'll want to check back soon for more news.
Grave Seasons
Developer: Perfect Garbage
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: August 14, 2026
As a horror fan as well as an avid cozy gamer, Grave Seasons is easily one of my most anticipated games on the horizon. Taking the typical formula of starting a new life on a farm, the game also offers up a dark twist since there's serial killer hiding within the community. As you farm, make connections with the locals and grow your profits you'll start to stumble across dead bodies. Make a wrong move and you could be next. The game's killer changes with each save, and you can find yourself accidentally married to the murderer if you aren't careful. All in all, Grave Seasons is the dark cozy experience that I've been searching for, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
The Sinking City 2
Developer: Frogwares
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: August 18, 2026
Many horror fans fell in love with The Sinking City back when it released in 2019, so hearing that a sequel is on the way will be great news for many of us spook hounds. Inspired yet again by H. P. Lovecraft's work, The Sinking City 2 is a semi-open world survival horror. You'll have to explore the city of Arkham in the 1920s that is dealing with a very ominous supernatural flood. This is a stand alone story, so don't worry about playing the first game again, though there's still time to get yourself up to speed before the sequel launches this August.
Halloween: The Game
Developer: IllFonic
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: September 8, 2026
No matter how you feel about IllFonic no one can deny that a game based on one of the best horror movies of all time, Halloween: The Game, sounds pretty dang cool. In this upcoming horror game, you can play as either Michael Myers (via single player mode) or as the Hero of Haddonfield (via multiplayer). During 1v4 asymmetrical multiplayer matches you’ll have to avoid the masked killer, convince your neighbors that they are in danger, and arm yourself with whatever you can find around your house.
Silent Hill Townfall
Developer: No Code
Platform(s): PC, PS5
Release date: September 24, 2026
As part of the bumper Silent Hill: Transmission stream, Silent Hill: Townfall was announced as a brand new addition to the series. If you enjoyed the creeping delights of Stories Untold and Observation, then you’ll be pleased to know that Glasgow-based dev studio No Code is working on this fresh slice of the franchise set in Scotland itself. It's taking notes from Silent Hill f in being an isolated story from the main series, and with a release date now locked in for late September, it's about to be a Fall to remember....
Valor Mortis
Developer: One More Level
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: September 24, 2026
From the creators of Ghostrunner it was revealed during Gamescom 2025 that we are getting a brand new action soulslike with Valor Mortis. In this upcoming horror game you play as a soldier of the Grande Armée that have been brought back to life who has been corrupted by a mysterious plague. With every death you'll grow stronger and unlock new supernatural abilities. However, at what cost? Nothing is scarier than never ending war, except maybe a war filled with gnarly looking monsters that look straight out of a Resident Evil game as well.
Silver Pines
Developer: Wych Elm
Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch
Release date: October 8, 2026
Upcoming horror game Silver Pines centers on the detective Red Walker exploring a forgotten, near-abandoned town of the same name for a musician named Eddie Velvet. However, the case soon reveals some darker truths, and Red is made to fight off monsters around every corner. You'll have to scavenge and manage your resources, solve some puzzles and engage in some tense exploration as well. It's everything horror fans love in a neat little package, and with a release date confirmed as of early June, there's not much longer to wait!
Tenebris Somnia
Developer: Andrés Borghi, Tobías Rusjan
Platform(s): PC
Release date: October 16, 2026
Upcoming survival horror game Tenebris Somnia is an 8bit horror game interspersed with live-action cutscenes. The grisly 2D adventure sees players solving puzzles and fighting back against horrific monsters, blending the worlds of video game and cinema to present a very different type of horror experience. The developer cites old-school Resident Evil and Silent Hill as stylistic inspirations, so it's definitely one to add to your list as we wait to hear more about what this delightfully strange new game might entail.
Neverway
Developer: Coldblood Inc
Platform(s): PC, Switch
Release date: October, 2026
Putting another unique horror spin on the farming life sim genre, Neverway sees you take on the role of Fiona who starts over on a farm. Only things take a turn when you end up becoming the immortal herald of an undead god in the process, and as a nightmare realm which is the game's namesake starts to seep into reality, you'll have to fight your way through horrors to keep your life from falling apart. Blending together life sim, horror, and action RPG elements, you'll get stuck into combat, decorate your home, make meals, farm and craft, and get to know the locals (and maybe even date them, too).
TBC 2026
ONTOS
Developer: Frictional Games
Platform(s): Xbox Series X/S, PS5,PC
Release date: TBC 2026
The makers of SOMA have a new horror coming our way, and it looks downright terrifying. In ONTOS, you play as Aditi Amani, who is invited to the moon hotel Samsara due to your estranged father. It turns out that Samsara isn't what it appears to be, and you'll have to face some disturbing truths as you uncover buried secrets. The trailer for this one is wild (personally, I'm a big fan of the rat motherboard), and it's already one of my most anticipated games of 2026.
Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy
Developer: Stormind Games
Platforms: PC
Release date: TBC 2026
If you are a horror fan, chances are you at least know about the Remothered games. Well, Remothered: Red Nun's Legacy is the final game in the trilogy, so you'll want to pay attention to it for sure. The game sees you take on the role of Susan, who travels to a decaying home in Mount Etna in search of her daughter. However, this is a survival horror game, so of course, there are monsters lurking around every corner waiting to strike. We still don't have a release date yet for this one, but I'll keep you posted as soon as there is news to share.
P.O.N.
Developer: Devci, Mars
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC 2026
I love co-op horror games, so P.O.N. is very high on my list for 2026 titles to keep an eye on. Taking on a found-footage style, you and your friends will play as criminals trying to complete crimes while keeping an eye out for those damn pesky heroes. Surprise attacks and traps are waiting, and gameplay trailers really capture a sense of dread as you enter dark rooms with plenty of shadows for caped crusaders to hide. It's an inventive twist on the superhero formula, and we are keen to find out a release date soon.
Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival
Developer: Saber Interactive
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: TBC 2026
Doug Bradley is reprising his iconic role as Pinhead in Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival. Billed by developer Saber as a "first-person, single-player, survival horror action game", the screenshots depicting FPS action and legions of undead have me thinking along Resident Evil 7 and 8 in terms of the gameplay vibe we can expect. If you're a Pinhead main in Dead by Daylight (or if you just really, really love being chased by him), Hellraiser Revival is one upcoming horror game to watch.
Stupid Never Dies
Developer: GPTRACK50 Inc.
Platform(s): PC, PS5
Release date: TBC 2026
Ok so this doesn't look like a nightmare inducing title, but it does seem like a fun upcoming zombie game that horror fans will enjoy. Stupid Never Dies is an upcoming action RPG set in a colorful and cartoony monster-ruled otherworldly dungeon. You play as the zombie Davy who has to beat up a ton of gnarly looking enemies on his quest to bring a human girl back to life. It's very Warm Bodies coded and while the scares aren't explicit it has enough nods to the genre to warrant a place on this list.
The Road of Dust and Sorrow
Developer: Painted Black Games
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC 2026
Cinematic side-scrolling pixel terror The Road of Dust and Sorrow looks like everything my narrative-loving heart desires. Riffing off the heartrending likes of dad-and-daughter games (this time, with a mom instead), you'll be taking on a harsh world and doing your best to protect your child from the terrors outside. I'm getting strong The Last of Us vibes here, with a heavy atmosphere and rich emotional core to raise the stakes considerably. We're still waiting on a release date, but as it's targeting a 2026 launch, I'm hoping to see more The Road of Dust and Sorrow before the summer is through.
Feed The Pit
Developer: Curious Fox Sox
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC 2026
As soon as I saw the pixelated, hooded, horned man in the teasers for this investigative horror game, I was sold. Feed The Pit is an upcoming title where you've essentially joined some kind of cult and you've been chosen to serve a higher purpose - feed the leader, Elijah (also known as the Pit). You'll be sent out to find what you need, but will also be pursued by monsters each time. It's up to you to survive and piece together investigations. The game looks very cool, and I'll for sure be checking it out once it has a release date.
TBC 2027
ILL
Developer: Team Clout
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC 2027
Revealed at the Future Games Show in 2022, ILL is an ultra gory survival horror riffing off the first-person Resident Evil games (even Leon S. Kennedy actor Nick Apostolides is on the cast list!), with its bloodshot eyes focussed on pure dismemberment. The monsters here are mutated and tentacled creations all intent on making sure that the last thing you see is a collection of flesh so twisted you don't even really know what killed you. Even more disturbing, is the fact that you're hardly going to have any ammo so you're going to have to get smart about when to engage or when to just hurtle away in the other direction.
Resident Evil Veronica
Developer: Capcom
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X
Release date: TBC 2027
The long-rumored Resident Evil Code Veronica remake is real, and it has a slightly different name. Capcom unveiled Resident Evil Veronica during Summer Game Fest 2026 with a sneaky trailer that never lets on exactly what you're looking at until near the end. In it, we see Claire Redfield herself investigating her brother Chris's Parisian apartment shortly after the events of Resident Evil 2 Remake, and with this being Claire's first Resi game since 2019, it's safe to say the hype is well and truly underway. We're still waiting on a firm release date for this one, but a 2027 release window is excellent news for the time being.
Until Dawn 2
Developer: Firesprite
Platform(s): PS5
Release date: TBC 2027
A brand new standalone sequel to one of the best narrative horror games ever is finally in the works. Until Dawn 2 will take us to a remote island as a ragtag band of young adult amateur ghost hunters finds themselves up against some very real horrors (for a change). This game isn't coming to us from original developer Supermassive, nor from the Until Dawn remake devs, but from Firesprite, so it will be interesting to see how the team riffs off the high-stakes branching narrative structure carved out by its predecessors to deliver an old-school splatterfest in 2027.
TBC
Alien: Isolation 2
Developer: Creative Assembly
Platform(s): TBC
Release date: TBC
It's finally happening. A 2014 survival horror masterpiece is set to receive a sequel in the coming years with Alien: Isolation 2. After a very tiny teaser trailer that really didn't let on too much, we finally got a proper glimpse of the upcoming horror game during Summer Game Fest 2026. Everything you love about the original's creeping cat-and-mouse terror seems back on the menu, as something seems to stalk the ruins of a spaceship crash site. I'll be waiting (kind of) patiently for more news on this one, and you can bet I'll be back to update you as the intel pours in....
Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit
Developer: WereBuff Studio
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
Inspired by Thai folklore, Kumarn: The Wandering Spirit looks stunning. In this horror adventure you play as Kumarn, a spirit who has been torn away from his home and is now deep in a scary world packed with ghosts and curses. It's up to you to find your way back home and to do so you'll need to wander through forgotten temples, spooky villages and some chilling graveyards as well. The art style does remind me of Little Nightmares quite a bit, so I've got my eye out for any news on this one.
Dream Eaters.exe
Developer: Tejin
Platforms: PC
Release date: TBC
If you like playing The Outlast Trials, I'm getting some similar vibes in Dream Eaters.exe. While the premises are different, both revolve around you being a test subject and having to complete certain objectives, as well as survive. In Dream Eaters.exe, you are stuck in a sleep experiment and will need to survive nightmare monsters to wake up. If you don't wake up its game over. There are puzzles and tasks to complete, VHS-inspired nightmare visuals, and co-op and single-player modes available. I'm still waiting for a release date to get announced, but this title looks super promising already.
Blight: Survival
Developer: Haenir Studio
Platform(s): PC (PS5 and Xbox Series X TBC)
Release date: TBC
Think Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but make it spooky! The publisher that brought you Dead by Daylight has a new breed of terror in store. Blight: Survival is an upcoming horror game set in a harsh medieval landscape, where you can go it alone in PvE or team up with friends to battle all manner of beast and man. The enemies in the Steam image gallery look decidedly zombified if you ask me, so even though we don't have a release date locked in for this survival experience, I've had my eye on it for a good few years because the concept alone is that cool.
Dark Fracture
Developer: Twisted 2 Studio
Platform(s): PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: TBC
Touted as a psychological horror experience, Twisted 2 Studio is bringing us a truly unsettling terror of a new game in the form of Dark Fracture sometime this year. From the gnarly screenshots and reveal trailer alone, it already sounds like I'll be calling my therapist about it later. We'll be exploring an "ever-changing world where reality and nightmares combine", reads the Steam page. What's more, it's looking like Dark Fracture will launch on current and past gen consoles as well as PC platforms. Sign me up.
darkwebSTREAMER
Developer: We Have Always Lived In The Forest
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
This upcoming horror game is a special one. Game director Chantal Ryan describes darkwebSTREAMER as a psychological horror RPG meets "narrative roguelike", and though it might look like deeply harrowing exploration of the endless secrets and mysteries of the deepest parts of the World Wide Web, it's also a deeply incisive comment on society, social media, and all the wicked things that go bump in our hearts. There's no sign of a release date yet, but the development of this compulsively-replayable narrative experience is one to watch if you're looking for an indie horror game that promises to do something wildly different, both to the genre and to you as the player.
DreadOut 3
Developer: Digital Happiness
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
If you've been playing horror since the 2010s, chances are you know the DreadOut series. Well, the good news is that another entry in the series will be heading our way in 2026. DreadOut 3 is another third-person horror that follows Linda as she deals with plenty of creepy ghosts and urban legends that are after her soul. The upcoming horror game will have a chilling story to follow, puzzles to solve, and even a Ghostpedia app to complete. Exciting times!
Forest 3
Developer: Endnight
Platform(s): TBC
Release date: TBC
Forest 3 was announced during the 2025 Game Awards, and honestly, we can't wait to get our hands on it already. In this upcoming entry, we'll be embarking on a trippy sci-fi twist to the survival gameplay seen in Sons of the Forest. After your spaceship crashes on a strange planet, you'll have to face a ton of monsters and some gnarly-looking fauna in order to stay alive. We are still waiting on a release date for this one, as well as platform confirmations, so stay tuned!
Nowhere
Developer: Midnight Forge Ltd.
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
Think Alan Wake 2 meets LA Noire, add some extra Norse mythology, and you have hardcore detective horror game Nowhere. Picking through the detritus of a deserted village, this upcoming horror game will see us examining items to made deductions in a series of investigations as we puzzle together what happened here, and what the vengeful gods had to do with it. If you love yourself some spooky Nordic themes and settings, this atmospheric delight is one to watch.
OD
Developer: Kojima Productions
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X/S
Release date: TBC
It wouldn't be a Kojima project if it weren't shrouded in mystery, now, would it? A collaboration between ex-Konami developer Hideo Kojima, Xbox Game Studios, and even Jordan Peele, OD is an upcoming horror game that looks less like a game and more like an experience. The brief look we got at OD during The Game Awards 2023 shows it to be suitably creepy and weird, and with A-list talent like Euphoria's Hunter Schaffer on deck, we'll just have to sit tight and wait for more info on this one.
Paranormal Tales
Developer: Digital Cybercherries
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4
Release date: TBC
Of all of the horror subgenres, found footage crawls under your skin in a very specific way. On the surface, our brains know that this is fiction but the shaky handheld footage from phones or even body cams demands to be taken seriously as a threat. Cue Paranormal Tales, a terrifying looking Unreal Engine 5 creation that lets us play various found footage files, encouraging us to explore further into the dark to discover what happened to those who were foolish enough to start hitting record. Expect plenty of movie-influenced jump scares and figures lurking in corners. You didn’t even see the one in the screenshot above, did you..?
Pillory
Developer: IODINE
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
Described on Steam as a "surreal indie RPG", Pillory sounds like the horror roguelike I've been waiting for. Featuring "turn-based mood battles" in a warped, "forgotten afterlife," Death is the key to growing your powers and potential. What little that's been confirmed about Pillory so far already has my full attention, from its creepy hand-drawn artwork that oozes sinister undertones to the cute yet equally creepy creatures you meet along the way. I'll be the first to let you know as soon as a release date gets announced.
Project M
Developer: Bloober Team
Platform(s): TBC (Nintendo Switch)
Release date: TBC
Okay, so this is less of a game announcement and more of just a heads up that a game is being made, but Layers of Fear developer Bloober Team has revealed a mysterious upcoming horror game called Project M is currently in the works for Nintendo Switch. The revelation came in an interview with CEO Piotr Babieno, saying that "its budget is significantly smaller than the games we are working on at Bloober Team, [but it] is extremely important due to our long-term plans."
"In addition, we are working on it in cooperation with the world's best game creators for Nintendo platforms, so we cannot afford to create just a decent game," he says, indicating that whatever Project M is, a lot of pressure has been heaped upon the studio.
Ritual Tides
Developer: Vertpaint Studios
Platform(s): PC (consoles TBC)
Release date: TBC
Rockstar vets have a new project in the works under a brand new studio, and it just so happens to be one of the most intriguing upcoming horror games around. Ritual Tides sees players awaken on a strange island, forced to reckon with the secrets lurking throughout. With little more than a few teaser trailers and some concept art, there's still a lot to be learned about this insidious Lovecraftian terror.
Saw Genesis
Developer: Broken Mirror Games
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
Bloober Team's in-house indie studio is tackling one of the biggest modern horror film franchises of the 2000s. Saw: Genesis is a new 3v1 asymmetrical upcoming horror game that will pit three Accused against one Judge for a twisted game pulled straight from the devious mind of Jigsaw. From traps to self mutilation and all the gory details between, this looks like one of the most inventive and potentially cruel (in a good way) Dead by Daylight-inspired multiplayer experiences of the bunch, and I can't wait to see more.
Silent Hill Remake
Developer: Bloober Team
Platform(s): TBC
Release date: TBC
It's little more than a teaser in the form of a Twitter video, but we finally have confirmation that Konami and Bloober Team are working together on a remake of 1999's Silent Hill. The short clip posted to the official Silent Hill Japan Twitter account shows little more than a title card, but with the original game's ever-familiar main theme underscoring it, I'm finding it hard not to very much freak out about the news right now. There's no indication as to when we can expect the upcoming horror game, but with Silent Hill f scheduled to launch later in 2025, the next couple of years are looking highly likely...
Terror: Endless Night
Developer: Unseen Silence
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
You’ll want to put an extra pair of socks on for this one, especially if you’ve already watched the first season of The Terror. This strategic survival stressfest isn’t officially affiliated in any way, but in Terror: Endless Night, we’re tasked with managing a crew aboard a 19th-century ship hunting down the missing HMS Erebus and HMS Terror. As we too become trapped in the grip of the ice, we’ll have to contend with sickness, fuel, starvation, and choose between life and death for the crew. Sadly, those socks probably aren’t going to keep your sanity in check as reality starts to crumble under the stress of it all. Enjoy?
Vale's Echo
Developer: Hollow Beak Games
Platform(s): PC
Release date: TBC
The demo is out on Steam now, and it's got me already intrigued for Vale's Echo. Set in the Underworld, you'll be solving puzzles, making important decisions, and taking in the beautiful side-scrolling sights of the land beyond the Veil. I'm expecting this one to really take off when it eventually launches, so here's your chance to get in on the ground floor.
See what else is set to come to platforms in the future with our roundups of upcoming PS5 games, upcoming PC games, and upcoming Xbox Series X games.
