Two people taken to hospital following three-vehicle crash near Kingston Park

Two people have been taken to hospital after three vehicles crashed in Newcastle.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after receiving a report of a three-vehicle collision on the A696 adjoining the A1 near Kingston Park. It occurred just before 6.15am on Thursday morning.

Police and paramedics attended and two people were transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in the city centre for further treatment.

The road was blocked while the emergency services dealt with the multi-vehicle collision and Northumbria Police warned motorists to expect delays.

The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent three ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic and one rapid response paramedic to the scene.

A spokesperson said: "We received a call at 6.13am this morning (Thursday 15 June) to reports of a road traffic incident on the A1 junction with the A696 in Newcastle.

"We dispatched three ambulance crews, one specialist paramedic, and one rapid response paramedic. Two patients were taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."
