Tusker enters Mysuru school, students locked in for 2 hours

MYSURU: Just when students and teachers of a government high school at Nagapura haadi (tribal hamlet) in Hunsur taluk, Mysuru district, were preparing for their Thursday morning assembly and prayers, a tusker from nearby Nagarahole Tiger Reserve kicked open the gate and entered the campus sending 129 students scurrying back to their classrooms for safety. They spent the next two hours on tenterhooks, locked up inside.

The Nagapura school is located just outside the tiger reserve, around 60km from Mysuru.

The tusker damaged a bike, which belongs to a teacher, cycle stand inside the campus and a house next to the school before returning to the wooded area.

According to teacher Ramachandra Singamaranahalli, the elephant entered the school through the main gate at around 9.45am and was inside the campus till 11.30am.
