But this doesn't just apply to Spain as Turkey also required people to carry proof of identification with them.
On the Gov.uk website, they state that it is "illegal not to carry some form of photographic ID in Turkey. You should carry your passport or residence permit at all times.
"In some busy areas, especially Istanbul, the Turkish authorities may stop members of the public to conduct ID checks. There’s also a number of police checkpoints on main roads across Turkey. You should co-operate with officials conducting checks."
Because of this, it's advised you keep your passport or driving license on you at all times when travelling in Turkey.
