Trump blames ‘Iran or someone else’ for Tomahawk missile that hit girls’ school

  • Donald Trump has suggested that Iran itself could be responsible for a Tomahawk missile strike that reportedly destroyed a girls' school in the country.
  • The claim comes despite state media reports attributing the attack to a joint US-Israeli bombing campaign.
  • Speaking from Florida, Mr Trump stated: "Whether it's Iran or somebody else ... a tomahawk, is very generic. It's sold to other countries, but that's being investigated right now."
  • He added: "I think it's something that I was told is under investigation, but tomahawks are are used by others. As you know, numerous other nations have tomahawks. They buy them from us. But I will certainly whatever the report, I'm willing to live with that report."
  • The Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' elementary school in Minab, southern Iran, was reportedly destroyed last week. Unesco has condemned the incident as a "grave violation of humanitarian law", while the US has confirmed it is looking into reports of the attack.
