I watched The Ultimatum and The Ultimatum: Queer Love every season since these shows’ premieres. I have preferred the queer spinoff because it was messier and more interesting. Therefore, I was devastated when it joined the long list of canceled Netflix shows.
There was no way the original series, involving heterosexual couples, could top the beauty of the messy queer version. The Ultimatum Season 4 didn’t want to be outdone by its spinoff, because it was one of the craziest seasons in Netflix reality TV show history.

The Ultimatum Once Again Highlights Why These Couples Should Break Up
Every season I have watched of The Ultimatum has just convinced me that none of these people should be together. There are often a few couples whose issues seem minor, but the majority feel like they have huge barriers that shouldn’t be overlooked.
The red flags were glaring on The Ultimatum Season 4. A few of these couples fell into the category of just needing to go to therapy to work out some of the problems. However, most of them were trying to overcome massive issues. I have seen the series enough to know that most of the couples would still end up engaged by the finale.
For some reason, the contestants always falsely believe that the right answer to their problems is an engagement. This is exactly what happened during Season 4. The Ultimatum reunion revealed that these badly matched couples eventually broke up.
These now exes have also practically become a circus on social media with all kinds of dangerous accusations flying. It’s been insane to watch, especially to see how the edit was seemingly pretty accurate with the portrayal of these couples and relationships. A rare win for reality TV show editors.
It Felt Like A Layered Look At All These Contestants
Many of us, justifiably, had strong reactions to The Ultimatum Season 4. Sometimes we liked the couples and individuals, and sometimes we found them hard to watch. It was a season that caused mixed reactions all the way through, including the way hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey handled some things during it.
The couples all seemed badly matched at times. However, a few of them eventually sold me on their love story and why they work. I was happily cheering for them on the reunion episode. The show does a good job of highlighting the bad and good things about each person in these relationships, and the relationships as well.
In particular, Hayley Hendrich and Blake Robertson were one of the most toxic couples on The Ultimatum, but it was hard to pin down who was more at fault for their bad romance. It became even more confusing at the reunion and after it.
The Ultimatum Season 4 Didn’t Just Feel Messy, It Felt Toxic
The Ultimatum Season 4 reunion, which is available with a Netflix subscription, had so many moments that reminded us why these couples should have never gotten engaged. They’re not just incompatible but seem to actively try to hurt one another.
The show became uncomfortable at times to watch. However, it made it feel more authentic than some other dating shows. Couples sometimes can become so toxic that they don’t realize how bad they’re treating each other. This season felt like it really highlighted why this show exists.
It’s messy, toxic, and can save people a lot of future damage by putting a mirror to bad relationships.
