Tributes paid to 'absolute legend' Hibs fan who died after being hit by taxi on A1

Tributes have been paid to an "absolute legend" who was killed after being hit by a taxi on the A1.

Cal Clark, 28, died following the accident on the busy road near Macmerry, East Lothian, just after midnight on Sunday, June 5.

Emergency services raced to the incident, but Cal, a Hibs fan from Tranent, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the taxi was not injured.

Following the news, tributes have flooded in from Cal's heartbroken friends and family, who have branded him "one of a kind".

Officers say the incident happened on the A1, near Macmerry (Google Maps)

Brendan Herschell said: "Rest in peace Cal Clark you’ll be dearly missed, what a character."


Dion Lewis said: "One of a kind, he lived life on his terms and everyone loved him for it.

"Will cherish the memories of nights out & lads holidays with you Rest in peace mate. Cal Clark."

Neil Martin said: "Seen this lad many a time away with Hibs, may he rest in peace mate thoughts go out to all his family and friends. Rest easy lad."

Kyle Ferguson added: "Can’t believe I’m writing this man! So young with it all still ahead of you. Rest easy bro, You will be missed massively by us all.

"From being the pitchy king in your yellow Prada jacket when we were younger to the banter we had every Hearts-Hibs game and all our group day/nights out. Rip Cal."

Hayleigh Campbell said: "So so sad to hear about Cal. Those days back in teenage life were the best.


"Those random meetings with our cheap drink at parks and runnings from the police and how can we not forget the time that me and him both got lifted into a riot van on Boxing Day absolutely steaming. Rest in peace x"

Meanwhile, Tranent FC posted a picture on Facebook of Cal, with the message: "We would like to pass our sincere condolences to Taylor Clark and his family of the passing of an absolute legend from Tranent that is Cal Clark.

"No words will describe how amazing this man was and will be a massive miss to everyone who knew and loved him, Fly high Cal."

Following the tragic incident, police are appealing for information.

Sergeant Barry Sommerville said: “Our thoughts are very much with the man who died.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen anything that could assist us to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time and who has a dashcam to check their footage.”
