Tottenham: Sergio Reguilon set for MLS move after leaving Spurs as free agent

Sergio Reguilon has found a new club after leaving Tottenham as a free agent this summer.

The Spaniard was among five players to leave the club following the Europa League final, released alongside the likes of Fraser Forster, Alfie Whiteman, and loanee Timo Werner.

Reguilon first signed with the club in 2020, making 56 League appearances since and also serving loan spells at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford.

He failed to find a new club before the transfer window closed in August, but, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, he has now found a new home.

Reguilon is set to sign with MLS side Inter Miami, with negotiations reportedly ‘well underway’.

Romano adds the full-back is expected to accept the Inter Miami offer despite having various other options available to him.

Miami currently sit fourth in the MLS Eastern Conference, seven points adrift of top-spot Philadelphia Union. They are, however, comfortably in contention to appear in the post-season play-offs.

Should he make the move, Reguilon would be able to count La Liga legends Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suarez among his teammates.

He would also follow former Tottenham teammate Heung-min Son in joining the MLS, after the South Korea international joined LAFC last summer.

Still just 28, Reguilon theoretically has the best of his career still ahead of him, but it may take time for him to find form after making just six appearances for Tottenham last season, only two of which were starts. He was called upon as cover for the injured Destiny Udogie following the festive fixtures.
