Tottenham player ratings vs Wolves: Ivan Perisic makes breakthrough with Davinson Sanchez imperious at times

Harry Kane made history by becoming the highest Premier League scorer for a single club as his 185th top-flight goal for Tottenham sealed a 1-0 win over Wolves.

Kane nodded home from a well-worked corner in the second half to settle an even contest with what was also his 250th goal for the club and Spurs’ 1000th home goal in the Premier League.

Dan Kilpatrick was at Spurs to rate the home players...

Hugo Lloris 7

Did not have a save of note to make, aside from a comfortable catch from Ruben Neves’ volley. Led from the back and exchanged words with Son in the second half, apparently because the South Korean was not showing enough urgency.

Davinson Sanchez 7

Made a couple of important covering challenges in encouraging display but once caught out by a darting run by Goncalo Guedes. Imperious in the air at times.

Eric Dier 7

Made some timely interventions in the heart of the back three and played well, particuarly considering Cristian Romero’s absence. Increasingly reliable.

Ben Davies 7

Involved in an engaging individual battle with Wolves debutant Matheus Nunes, who beat him to a first-half header but saw an effort deflected wide by the Welshman.

Emerson Royal 6

Had a couple of hairy moments against Rayan Ait-Nouri but generally solid defensively. Struggled to make an impact in the final third.

Ivan Perisic 7

Made the breakthrough for Spurs by winning the decisive corner with a surging run and flicking on Son’s corner to Kane at the back post. Grew into the game after a slow start and showed an impressive ability to dig out crosses from difficult positions.

Rodrigo Bentancur 6

Coped OK with Wolves midfield press and kept the ball moving, but hardly made a mark on the game, and easy to miss.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7

Booked early on for a tactical foulbut put in a shift defensively and was a willing runner until the end. Occasionally panicky in the final third while in possession.

Dejan Kulusevski 7

Stepped up in the second half and created chances for Kane, twice, and Son with clever play. Often looked the likeliest player to find a way through Wolves from open play.

Heung-min Son 6

Below his best and squandered a good opening, but still involved in the decisive moment with the corner for Kane’s goal. Struck the post shortly beforehand from a tight angle.

Harry Kane 7

In the right place at the right time to win the match, having come to closest to scoring before the breakthrough. Tested Sa with a looping header and rattled the crossbar.

Subs

Richarlison (Son 75’) 7

Had a penalty claim waved away after a superb late driving run and fired a shot just wide, as he showed what he can do from the bench again.

Sessegnon (Perisic 75’) 6

Saved Perisic’s legs after the Croatian came off holding his calf.

Yves Bissouma (Kulusevski 85’) N/A

Late cameo.
