Tottenham can help Arsenal fail in Nicolas Pepe transfer mission as Cody Gakpo move 'agreed'

Tottenham can have the last laugh over Arsenal in the summer transfer window as we approach the final day of proceedings.

The Lilywhites are in a lot more of a calmer mood in comparison to their North London rivals. They are in desperate need of signing two further players to add to the £120million Edu has spent to improve Mikel Arteta's sides' chances of achieving a Premier League top four finish this season. Nicolas Pepe's loan exit to OCG Nice means another squad roster spot has opened up on the wing. The likes of Pedro Neto, Cody Gakpo and most recently, Mykhaylo Mudryk have all been linked, but not one of these deals seems likely to happen before the 11 PM (BST) deadline on Thursday, September 1.

Neto is 'unlikely' to force the issue with Wolverhampton Wanderers whilst there is strong competition for Mudryk from Everton and Brentford, respectively, meaning Arsenal's chances in both these pursuits seem non-existent. That leaves Gakpo on the table for Edu and Co to ponder over, but despite the superiority advantage they hold over the likes of Southampton and Leeds, it seems as though the current Premier League high flyers have stood completely still.

BBC Radio Solent (local Southampton station) have reported that Southampton have 'agreed' a fee for the 23-year-old Dutch prospect, but the Athletic's David Ornstein has declared the transfer race to be open in this scenario with Leeds United now very hot on the tails of a left winger who has netted twice for PSV already in their game in the Eredivisie over FC Volendam.

Ornstein tweeted: 'Cody Gakpo race open. Leeds United / Southampton / lucrative new deal at PSV Eindhoven. No issue for Saints on fee or personal terms. LUFC is interested if Dan James leaves. Fresh PSV terms strong option.'

Tottenham are expected to go hard for James in the last 24 hours of the window with Aston Villa highly keen to poach Lucas Moura if the former Man United man was to become the eighth new summer signing for Antonio Conte, Leeds would go hard for Gakpo as a replacement and therefore ruin Arsenal's slim transfer chances on Deadline Day.

Arsenal fans- Are there any other wingers besides Pedro Neto, Cody Gakpo and Mykhalo Mudryk that you want to see be pursued in the last 24 hours of this summer's transfer window? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
