Tornado steam train returns to Glasgow this summer as Clyde Aberdonian to depart Central Station

Trainspotters will be putting the date in the diary with the news a historic steam train will return to Glasgow this summer.

The 'Clyde Aberdonian' will depart Central Station to whisk daytrippers through Stirling and Perth and along the East coast to Aberdeen onboard the stunning locomotive Tornado.

It made its first visit to Glasgow last year and will return this August to give Glaswegians the opportunity to climb aboard the stunning locomotive, which featured in movie Paddington 2 and is the first steam engine to reach 100mph since the 1960s.

The train journey will leave our city for Stirling, before picking up the northernly route from Perth and transporting daytrippers along the East coast to Aberdeen - showcasing some of the best scenery Scotland has to offer in the process.

The team behind the Clyde Aberdonian say: "Let the steam train whisk you away as we take in some of the best that Scotland has to offer.

"Heading out from Glasgow and Stirling, the train runs along the East coast for much of its route making it an unrivalled way to experience Scotland.

"In Aberdeen there is a chance to explore this historic city, or take one of our off train excursions that include a castle or distillery visit.

"On board the train you can sit back in comfortable seats and large windows through which to admire the scenery.

"Our friendly team will look after you, and if you choose to dine with us you will be treated to fine Scottish fare.

"Come and travel with us as Tornado runs regularly over this historic route."

The trip, which departs Glasgow at 9:00am and returns at 10:00pm, runs on Saturday, August 13 and on Thursday, September 15.

And for those unable to take the trip, you can always wave the train goodbye at Central Station.

Prices start from £99.00. For more info, visit the website here.
